Copenhagen Subway System

Copenhagen Subway System

How much does a subway ticket cost in Copenhagen? How many lines are there? Find out everything you need to know to get around Copenhagen by subway.

The Copenhagen subway system was inaugurated in 2002, making it one of Europe's newest subways. It's automatic and driverless! The main advantage of the Copenhagen subway is that it connects Krastup airport to the city center in just 15 minutes.

The subway stations are marked with a glass pyramid, so they are easy to recognize and let in natural light.

Lines

The Copenhagen subway has four lines, each with a different color:

  • Green line (M1): this line runs through the center and south of Copenhagen and will take you directly to Freetown Christiania.
  • Yellow line (M2): the yellow line runs through the city center and goes all the way to Copenhagen Airport.
  • Red line (M3): the red line is circular, so it's quite useful for reaching the suburbs.
  • Blue line (M4): this line starts at Copenhagen Central Station and goes all the way to Nordhavn, very close to the Little Mermaid. This line is currently being worked on.
